A Flower

A flower has
many petals.
If you give them
to me
one at a time,
each new one
will receive
more love
than the last.

If the whole flower
you deliver,
then I will
preserve it
with the greatest
care
so that I have
the joy
of having it
forever.

If you promise me
a flower,
then each morning
I will rise
with a song
in my heart
knowing
one day
I will have
my flower.

If you give me
nothing,
then
nothing
is all
I can cherish.
